Rachel and Barni Alejandro’s Sexy Chef business expands to cookbook

Seeing is believing: Singer-actress Rachel Alejandro (left) and sister, chef Barni Alejandro Rennebeck, are the best advertisements for their diet-food catering service Sexy Chef.

MANILA, Philippines - In 2004, singer-actress Rachel Alejandro and sister, chef Barni Alejandro-Rennebeck, established The Sexy Chef, a diet food catering service that specializes in delivering South Beach Diet meals to health- and figure-conscious Filipinos in Metro Manila. Currently, The Sexy Chef has expanded by offering party and corporate event catering services, affordable healthy lunch and dinner meals for delivery, and different weight-loss programs, including original diet plans co-created with US-certified fitness nutritionist Nadine Tengco, resident food coach of the hit reality television show The Biggest Loser Philippines.

Recently, the Alejandro sisters’ enterprise expanded even further. On Dec. 4, Rachel and Barni launched The Sexy Chef Cookbook at National Book Store, Glorietta 1.

The Sexy Chef Cookbook is a collection of diet food recipes where chef Barni shares calorie-cutting cooking techniques and tricks on how to transform everyday favorites into more nutritious versions. Instead of providing numbers for how many grams of fat, protein or carbs each dish contains, which only works for nutritionists, it features a star ingredient for each recipe and the nutritional benefits it provides for the body.

The book also contains personal stories from the authors on their successful weight-loss strategies, their secrets of staying slim, different diet programs and their Sexy Chef food catering services. It highlights existing recipes for the food they deliver to clients such as chicken adobo and mango wrap, southwestern tortilla soup, apple cinnamon bread pudding, and spaghetti with meatballs, among others, and the new recipes Barni created just for the book. With a little knowhow and preparation, the authors believe that people can eat their favorite foods and still maintain a slim figure, and that cooking healthy meals doesn’t have to be difficult, expensive and time-consuming.
