Tetra Pak cartons in one hand and save the environment with the other hand

MANILA, Philippines - One of the socially responsible companies that have integrated running their business in an environmentally sound manner is Tetra Pak, a company committed to putting into action their company motto:  “Protects what’s good.”

Tetra Pak has been in business for 60 years globally as they supply both food packaging materials and processing solutions to major food and beverage companies worldwide. Apart from the innovation that Tetra Pak provides in safely packaging beverages such as liquid milk and juices, they also ensure that the carton packaging material that they supply to customers is harvested from sustainably managed forests.

In 2012, they also organized and participated in three programs and events that allowed them to showcase their environmental advocacy.

The first activity involved Tetra Pak’s participation in an Earth Day event at Nuvali through the Green Market, a venue that inspired environmental awareness and promoted habitual recycling among consumers. An informative and interactive booth was set up, featuring three easy steps in recycling a Tetra Pak carton: flip, flap and flat.

Another program is their annual recycling drive that encourages students to be more environmentally conscientious by calling on them to bring used Tetra Pak cartons. The program is dubbed “Tetra Pak Care and Share Program,” and rewards the top schools that collect the most cartons.

“Our Tetra Pak Care and Share Program benefits both the winning partner schools and their adopted foundations or underprivileged schools,” said Tess Raymundo, Tetra Pak communications and environment manager. “This is truly an effort that teaches the youth to be both environmentally conscious as they get to actively recycle beverage cartons and be socially responsible too as they also get to share with underprivileged organizations.”

Lastly, Tetra Pak hosted “Recycle-Feed-Run” event, which required participants to bring at least two empty, clean Tetra Pak cartons, which were recycled into useful paper products such as paper bags and envelopes. These collected beverage cartons were matched by Tetra Pak and its dairy customer partners with P250,000 worth of ready-to-drink milk that was donated to kids taken care of by the Mother Teresa Foundation.

“Through the Tetra Pak Recycle-Feed-Run event, we are happy that we were able to encourage people to stay fit, help protect the environment and give back to the community through the milk donation that has benefitted underprivileged children,” shared Tetra Pak Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines managing director Gaine Clarke.
