Winning PBA coach tells CDO entreps how to win in business
MANILA, Philippines - Multi-titled PBA coach Chot Reyes not only teaches basketball players how to win games but the new head coach of SMART Gilas II also applies the principles of winning on the hard court to business as an executive coach.
In the recent SME Speaker Series of Planters Development Bank (Plantersbank) where he was the guest speaker, Reyes shared the winning strategy in basketball that can also drive businessmen to succeed: teamwork. The forum, which carried the theme “Creating a Winning Team: Strengthening Your Business Through Teamwork,” was attended by a packed audience of Cagayan de Oro’s SMEs.
Reyes, who is also an entrepreneur, shared his successes and pitfalls as the mentor of different teams, the parallelism of coaching and business management, how to integrate winning plans into business, and effective leadership. “Business, like basketball, harps on the same principles of choosing the right people and forming a strong team to achieve goals,” according to Reyes, founder of Coachcom.inc, an executive coaching provider serving top 500 corporations in the Philippines. Reyes adds, “Teamwork is consistency plus buy-in. Be consistent in your efforts and give your people a good reason to believe in your team.”
The Plantersbank SME Speaker Series imparts winning management techniques and business skills delivered by today’s top motivational speakers. The advocacy program is aligned with the Bank’s goal to promote SME enablement. It aims to provide Filipino entrepreneurs with a venue to equip themselves with the latest management trends and learn valuable tips for capacity building, as well as expand their network and build possible partnerships.
The forum in CDO is Plantersbank’s response to help uplift the morale of the business community after the onslaught of Typhoon Sendong, which greatly devastated the province and crippled several businesses. The SME Speaker Series was presented in partnership with PhilExport Cagayan de Oro.
