MANILA, Philippines - Shoephoric, an online social networking site for shoe lovers around the world, is a place where shoe-holics can organize their collection and share it with friends, families and online contacts. This month, the site is introducing “Make Me Shoephoric,” a mobile application for Android that allows your friends or relatives to help you get your dream shoe by contributing funds using their mobile phone load or credits, in addition to credit cards or online payment accounts. This ability to use load credit as payment is limited to subscribers of Smart Communications, Inc., one of the founding members of the Wholesale Applications Community, a global alliance of mobile service providers and manufacturers. As one of the few apps in the country that uses in-app billing via Smart, the homegrown Shoephoric Android app was launched at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, on Feb. 27. Ann Jacobe, project leader for Shoephoric, thinks that the efforts of WAC and Smart help local mobile developers like them significantly. “It is now easier for developers to deploy mobile applications,” she said. “We are able to integrate with operator billing easily. Through the in-app billing, developers may generate revenue within the app, even if the app is offered free.” For more information about the feature, visit the Shoephoric website and click on the “Make Me Shoephoric” icon.
