MANILA, Philippines - The Catholic Women’s Club, now in its 90th year of existence, has turned over 38 units (homes) to selected beneficiaries of Taguig City.
The blessing and turnover ceremony last Nov. 22, 2011 was a huge success. It was attended by a large group of CWC members beaming with pride, joy and fulfillment in their accomplishment. The 38 grateful beneficiaries/families who finally realized their seemingly impossible dream of living in a beautiful decent home, members of Couples for Christ and Rotary Club of Forbes Park, countless heroic volunteers, the GK Management Team, and Taguig City officials were also in attendance.
Father Joel Sulse blessed all the 38 units with their respective beneficiaries on hand as well as the religious items donated by the CWC-GK sewing team headed by Clare Quesada.
The infrastructure of the building consists of two floors with a loft for each of the 38 units. The ground floor has 19 units with 19 units on the second floor. The total area of each floor is 17 square meters on the ground floor and 15 square meters in the loft for a total of 32 square meters, which is double the size of our standard 16-square-meter GK unit.
Gawad Kalinga founder Tony Meloto in an inspiring speech said CWC GK Village will be the “exemplary template” for GK homes and “a model of functional decent homes.” He congratulated CWC for providing “the best for the least.” He particularly gave honor to the loving and generous CWC ladies for their sense of patriotism in uplifting the dignity of our marginalized brothers and sisters who hunger for our love, generosity and kindness.
CWC president Mimi Valerio and CWC-GK chairman Tessie Rodrigo with the valuable help of husband Bobby as project manager, thanked friends, donors, partners, the GK management team, the city of Taguig, countless volunteer heroes and most of all CWC ladies who gave their best in making this seemingly impossible dream a beautiful reality.
