MANILA, Philippines - The Sta. Cecilia Parish of Maly, San Mateo, Rizal was the site of a dental and medical mission spearheaded by the Meralco Employees Fund for Charity, Inc. (MEFCI). With Meralco employees and Medical Team Volunteers headed by Dr. Roman S. Manalang, MEFCI was able to reach out to more than 500 recipients of the medical and dental mission in the community.
Fr. Roy Cruzero, parish priest of Sta. Cecilia, was there to welcome the MEFCI group. He lauded the Meralco volunteer employees who took time to visit the area and supervise the donation of medicines and vitamins and the delivery of basic health services. The group also did tooth extractions and toothbrush drill for kids.
On Meralco’s side, officers were also present to witness the event such as Crispulo Crusem, head of the Rizal sector; Larry R. Apuada, head of Marikina Business Center; and Christopher E. Yap, head of Corporate Social Responsibility Office.
“MEFCI was conceived because of the Meralco employees’ desire to share their blessings to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. Even before other companies have their CSR programs, we were already doing our own CSR initiative since 1978, when MEFCI was organized,” said Rener Musngi, chairman of MEFCI.
MEFCI conducts regular dental and medical missions in depressed communities within Meralco’s franchise area, donates various medical equipments to charity institutions and government hospitals, and provides assistance in relief efforts during calamities.
“MEFCI provides the venue for the Meralco workforce to volunteer assistance to individuals, institutions or organization in need of help. All the funds we use in various MEFCI projects come from the regular monthly contributions of Meralco employees,” adds Musngi.
