Meralco strengthens CSR by partnering with Hocheng Phils.

MANILA, Philippines - The power of Meralco’s CSR programs does not only rely on the passion of its volunteers — who are mostly Meralco employees sharing their time and talent — there are also corporate partners who believe in the advocacy that education is one of the most powerful tools in uplifting the lives of underprivileged youth.

Meralco’s CSR programs are centered on education and community development. Thus, the utility company has spearheaded the building of 33 Sibol Schools and three Liwanag Learning Centers in the communities of Gawad Kalinga all over the country, the most recent of which is located in GK Dreamland in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

One of the most active supporters of Meralco’s CSR programs is Hocheng Philippines Corp. The top bathroom fixtures manufacturer has donated valuable products such as high-standard water closets, washbasins, urinals and faucets that are now being used in the various Meralco Sibol Schools.

“Like Hocheng Philippines, Meralco is a world-class company with a heart,” said Bruce Chien, head of marketing of Hocheng Philippines. “Through our cooperation and donation to Meralco’s CSR projects, our products are not only showcased for its reliability, but they are used for the greater good — serving communities and schools that need it the most.”

Hocheng Phils. is the only bathroom fixture manufacturer in the country that offers its clients training in the proper installation of its products. It also has a customer service department that repairs and services the installed products as part of its client relations program.

Christopher Yap, head of Meralco’s CSR Office, lauded Hocheng Phils. for being a steadfast and reliable partner. Yap reveals that there are a lot more community-based projects that will be undertaken by Meralco in the long-term and they need all the support from like-minded companies.

“We believe that education possesses a transforming effect in the lives of the students and the community in the long run. In order to deliver quality education during the transformative years of the kids, the infrastructure (Meralco Sibol School) should be well-equipped with the necessary facilities. This is why our partnership with Hocheng is very valuable and effective,” said Yap.

Chien reiterated, “We plan to expand our corporate social responsibility through extending our efforts and idealism with Meralco for the long-term. Meralco can count on our full support.”
