Young minds, bold ideas in Robinsons' EntrePinay 2009

MANILA, Philippines - Young and full of bold ideas, they are at it again. Over 100 sophomores and juniors of Miriam College taking up Entrepreneurship will showcase bright, fresh and new retail ideas in “EntrePinay 2009: Young Women Inspired,” from March 27 to April 4, Level 1 (in between Mongolian Quickstop and Robinsons Supermarket), Robinsons Galleria. This exhibit/sale/display is in conjunction with Robinsons Malls Entrep Corner program, which advocates entrepreneurship among the youth, focusing on young, enterprising, business-minded individuals who are currently taking entrepreneurship or other business-related courses.

“This year’s batch of participants from Miriam College proves that the youth can move forward and be recognized despite challenging times,” says Roseann Coscolluela-Villegas, Robinsons Land Corporation’s corporate public relations manager. “It is obvious that their product lines are curiously detailed, commercially viable and are backed up by solid research from industry experts.” She adds that the participants who are organized among 20 student companies are driven and very creative.

Most product lines are focused on the environment, while others innovate using healthy organic products, thus promoting health and wellness. Several new ideas also come into play, capitalizing on popular ideas with the students providing their own versions or twists.

Saving The Environment One Innovation At A Time

In keeping with Miriam College’s advocacy to save the environment, some student-companies integrated the same advocacy in their product offerings. The use of tarpaulins, which were originally for marketing purposes, has provided a creative avenue for Makiliki bags to reuse and transform them into stylish bags, coin purses and laptop bags. Blacq Jacq, on the other hand, saw the potential in jackfruit seeds and utilized it as its main ingredient for their unique tea bags.

PINOY PRIDE

Others believed in the power of local materials and were able to produce new essentials. These are ginger juice by Gingerlicious, camote-top juice from Camote Craze, a facial and body-care line from the Pineapple Story, white wine fermented from dragon fruit called Marit de Scarlette, choose-your-own-rice meals from Rice Story, a cashew spread called Cashoo, Filipino viand-flavored chicken nuggets from Nuggettee, malunggay cookies from Kiddie Corner, ampalaya cookies from ANJP Cookies, fruit sandwiches from MPBM Fruit, and chocolate fudge with a virgin coconut oil base called Coco Loco.

Hot, Fresh Novelties

Novelty items catering to the different demands and lifestyles of specific types of people will also be showcased during the two-week exhibit: rain bags to protect other bags and even laptop bags, Pillowbag, which is a bag, comforter and pillow rolled into one, all-natural edible lip gloss from Glossip Girl, nationalistic and religious-inspired T-shirt creations from Over the Edge. Chefs and culinary students will take delight in CUB’s new and stylish bags, which will hold all their knives and other kitchen materials. Out-of-school youth-made jewelry boxes are the offerings of Starbox.

“EntrePinay 2009: Young Women Inspired” is part of Robinsons Malls’ Entrep Corner program, which aims to nourish and hone the entrepreneurial skills of today’s youth. As in Miriam College, the Entrep Corner program has furthered their advocacy with other colleges and universities like San Beda College, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, and De La Salle University-Lipa.
