The controversial Anthony Violago
December 11, 2002 | 12:00am
Controversies surround Anthony Violago. From business deals to personal affairs, rumors are abundant about our bachelor. His lavish parties and luxurious cars attract even more attention to this quiet and gentle young man. Recent front-page news about his break-up with Imelda Marcos has stirred gossip and raised questions about Anthonys character. Its not about the money, he claims. Rather, it is the betrayal of their friendship that has caused him to turn.
As V.P. marketing for Violago Homes, Anthony, 29, can take it easy. The Violago Group builds low-cost housing in Quezon City. Their ongoing 24-hectare project near the Batasang Bayan builds row house units, with small private gardens for each home and a park for their community residents.
If you had the chance to change something in your life, what would that be?
I would be more low profile. Keep quiet and stay in the background.
Who or what is the greatest of love of your life?
Other than my parents, I have no great love now. It used to be Mrs. Marcos but I got disillusioned with her after she received the P2 billion from PLDT. She is selfish and has no intention of helping the poor loyalists
What is your most fervent wish?
I cannot wish anything more for myself because I am comfortable with my life. My wish would be for a prosperous and environment-friendly Philippines with beautiful roads, good governance and honest officials.
How do you resolve your conflicts?
I am open to all suggestions or opinions. I never close the different avenues. I listen to everyone before I decide.
What is your greatest fear?
I have no fears. Maybe, yes, to lose my family.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
When you are alone and nobody wants to be with you, not even your family.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
I get mad easily. Sometimes small things flare me up.
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Not appreciating what you do for them.
How do you start your day?
At 8 a.m. making lots of phone calls. After lunch I go to the office or attend meetings.
What is your current state of mind?
I am always at peace with myself. No matter how heavy my problems are, I know that they all have a solution.
What do you most value in your friends?
That they will be there for me during bad times. Everyone is a friend when things are going well. Since the 1998 financial crisis, even friendship has been affected.
What is your greatest extravagance?
My cars. Even when I was in Ateneo, I would be brought to school in a limousine.
Which historical character would you like to have been?
The young Ferdinand Marcos whose character was not yet flawed. If he had not gotten sick, he might have succeeded. When he got sick, Maam was already running the show.
What is your favorite occupation?
Shopping. Eating. Helping children. My personal security was killed recently so I am now the surrogate father of his three children.
What is the quality you most like in a man?
Decisiveness.
What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Persuasiveness.
