Negros dance group joins international Chinese New Year parade in Hong Kong
MANILA, Philippines — The Canlaon City Pasayaw Dance Company will represent the Philippines at this year's Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade in Hong Kong.
More than 50 dance groups from 14 countries and regions around the world will traverse through Canton Road, Haiphong Road, and Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui to welcome the Year of the Wood Snake on January 29.
Among these international groups are Kep1er from South Korea, LYKN from Thailand, Comparsa Shambala from Spain, The Fantastic Trip from Germany, UniCircle Flow from Japan, and Zurcaroh from Austria.
The parade itself carries the theme "Unfold a Year of Good Fortune" as Hong Kong's flag carrier Cathay Pacific bears title sponsor duties for the 23rd consecutive year.
"We are honored to represent Canlaon City at such a prestigious international event," said one of Pasayaw Dance Company's members Seth Bariga in a statement. "Performing alongside groups from all over the world inspires us to bring our best and show the world the joy and passion of Filipino festivals."

Bariga shared the eruption of Mount Kanlaon tested the group's resilience but also highlighted the strength of their community.
"This performance is not just a showcase of our talent but also a testament to the strength and determination of the people of Canlaon. We look forward to meeting other performers, sharing our stories, and being part of this incredible celebration in Hong Kong," Barga ended.
Also appearing during the parade are a series of floats that will double as ambassadors for Hong Kong's unique charm and festivities.
Upon the parade's conclusion, floats and performances can still be viewed in Lam Tsuen's Wishing Square until February 13 in partnership with the Hong Kong Well-Wishing Festival.
Last year during the parade's first edition after five years, the Philippines was represented by another dance group from Negros — the Barangay Granada MassKara Dancers of Bacolod.
