MANILA, Philippines — A museum in New Washington, Aklan dedicated to the late Cardinal Jaime Sin is now open to the public.

The Cardinal Jaime Sin Museum or "Museo Kardinal" is the first ecclesiastical museum in Western Visayas and centers on the life and legacy of Cardinal Sin, a key figure in the two People Power Revolutions.

Cardinal Sin, born in New Washington, served as the 30th Catholic Archbishop of Manila and the third Filipino cardinal, passing away last June 21, 2005 from kidney complications due to Diabetes at age 76.

The museum itself was the former house of Sin family from 1974 to 2003 and its opening coincided with the 50th anniversary celebration of the Diocese of Kalibo.

New Washington mayor Jessica Panambo said the target audience for the museum are the youth so they may "learn all the good things about the good Cardinal."

Staff for Museo Kardinal were trained by the National Museum in Visayas since June ahead of its opening last September 1, a day after what would have been Cardinal Sin's 96th birthday.

The museum contains Cardinal Sin's personal belongings as preserved by the Serviam Foundation and donated by his former personal secretary Fr. Rufino Sescon Jr., currently the rector of the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno in Quiapo.
