'Artist on a Mission' Kristine Lim collaborates with Philippine Navy

MANILA, Philippines — In an unprecedented collaboration that fuses art, cultural unity, and maritime diplomacy, "Artist on a Mission" Kristine Lim's "Bridging Horizons: Naval Culture Thru Arts" was recently launched as an effort by Lim and the Philippine Navy to embark on a journey that aims to transcend boundaries and bolster national civil defense efforts.

The official international launch of the project was held last October 7 and October 11 in Galerie Joaquin BGC and Manila Metropolitan Theatre, respectively. This global and historic project is set to unfold for the next five years.

Describing herself as "a very active and dedicated Philippine Navy Ambassador," Lim focuses on Naval Diplomacy through arts and culture and other Civil Military Operations-related efforts. Lim’s most memorable mission was her very first which was in Basilan. She was sent there as a Philippine Navy Ambassador to teach Art for Peace to the children.

"This event emphasizes mutual understanding, cultural ties, and civil operations," Director Ariel Atendido, Project Manager of Kristine Lim said.

Cindel Tausas, Curator of Bridging Horizons and Managing Director of Art Lounge Manila, said that Lim "unites her diverse roles and experiences in her artwork. Lim's "multifaceted identity invites contemplation and reflection, connecting ancient traditions with modern interpretations."

In particular, Lim created two series for the program: the "Amak Art" and the "Perla De Oriente" series. 

Artwork from the "Amak Art" series features an indigenous wood material called Amak from Mindoro that was used for clothing during the country's early years. 

Meanwhile, the "Perla De Oriente" is Lim's signature style, boastic nationalistic and patriotic incorporation of national symbols such as Anahaw, Sampaguita, Philippine Eagle, Bangus, Philippine Mango Leaves, and more.

To exemplify, Councilor Numero Uno of Manila, an advocate for cultural diplomacy, acknowledged the power of arts and culture in bridging differences and fostering unity. He noted, "This collaboration aspires to inspire cities and regions to undertake similar projects, strengthening international relations through artistic expression."

The project " is where we conduct calls to government institutions, agencies, naval bases, and historic sites in other countries, and gift them art pieces made by Kristine Lim to strengthen relationships. This project promotes cultural exchanges and supports the navy's civil-military operations efforts," stated VDAM Toribio Dulinayan Adaci Jr., Flag Officer in Command of the Philippine Navy.
