Fil-Am artist Fatima Ronquillo unveiling new artworks in London's Dorothy Circus Gallery
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-American artist Fatima Ronquillo will be unveiling her latest collection of works in her solo exhibit "Amore: An Ode to Love" in London's Dorothy Circus Gallery this October.
Ronquillo will showcase five new artworks at the exhibit, each piece presenting how she has mastered classical inspiration, enchanting pictorial imagery, and the fusion of rich cultural traditions.
As the exhibit's title suggests, love plays a central part in each new artwork, with Ronquillo drawing inspiration from playwright William Shakespeare, writer Oscar Wilde, and poets Edward Spenser and Hafez.
From love's intricacies to its pain and pleasures, Ronquillo's pieces are a visual feast that echoes the works of the past artists.
"Take all my loves, my love, yea take them all," the first line of Shakespeare's iconic "Sonnet 40," speaks of powerful devotion and Ronquillo captures those complexities with her brushwork.

"Amoretti XXX: My love is like to ice, and I to fire," from Spenser's 16th century poem, sees Ronquillo reflecting passion and intensity in the juxtaposition of two opposing forces.
A similar reflection can be seen in another artwork of Ronquillo's "The Nightingale and the Rose," inspired by Wilde and Hafez.
The San Fernando-born artist emigrated to the United States in 1987 and taught herself how to paint, basing her style from European old masters and the magical realism of Latin American traditions especially the late Fernando Botero who passed away last month.
"Amore: An Ode to Love" will run in Dorothy Circus Gallery in London, United Kingdom from October 13 to November 4.
