MANILA, Philippines — National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has chosen Kapamilya actress Maja Salvador as its new dance ambassador.

The announcement came during the press conference of Dance Xchange 2019, the Philippine celebration of International Dance Day every April 29.

In her acceptance speech, Maja said she was overwhelmed by the recognition and she will use her position to promote the dance culture of the Philippines.

“Salamat po sa pagtitiwala sa akin sa pagpili bilang maging dance ambassador ng NCCA. Nakakatuwa na makabilang ako sa hanay nila Tito Boy Abunda and ni Mr. Piolo Pascual na mga ambassadors din ng NCCA. Gagamitin ko po ang boses ko para mas makilala pa ang sining, kultura at ibang-ibang klase pa ng sayaw ng mga Pilipino,” Maja said.

NCCA, led by Chairman and National Artist Virgilio Almario and National Committee on Dance lead by Shirley Halili-Cruz, is once again organizing Dance Xchange: The Philippine International Dance Workshop and Festival with the theme “Cultural Connectivity through Dance” on April 26 to 30, in Roxas City, Capiz.

The International Dance Day (IDD) was created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute-UNESCO, which marks the birthdate of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet.

The IDD aims to promote dance in all its forms across the world, to make people aware of the value of dance, share the joy of dance with others and, enable the dance community to promote their work on a broad scale.
