WATCH: How to make Oriental art collage
MANILA, Philippines — Though a relatively unknown art, Oriental art collage has many applications and can therefore become a profitable career for many artists, said practitioner and freelance art educator and artist Ian de Jesus.
According to De Jesus, as opposed to a multimedia collage wherein one puts together different things through cut and paste, in Oriental art collage, one just draws different patterns and elements together like in a collage. It has been called “Oriental,” said De Jesus, because the art usually incorporates Oriental motifs and historical references such as archaeological findings.
For this back-to-school season, De Jesus invites people to try Oriental art collage as it can be used not only in making school projects, but also in professional creative industries like visual merchandising and fashion design.
De Jesus was among the artists featured in the recent SM Stationery Art Fest, which included workshops from other artists representing brands such as Pilot Pens, Faber-Castell, Sakura, Dong-A,Ifex, Frixion Pastel, Tokyo Finds, and Elmers. For the back-to-school season, these brands offer innovations such as eco-friendly and recyclable coloring tools, gel ink paintbrush pentel pens, calligraphy art sets, and highlighters with eraser.
