MANILA, Philippines — Besides cheating, many kids are guilty of a school “crime”: doodling on their notebooks instead of listening to teachers.
But for Filipino artist Tippy Go, what started as a hobby to kill time became a livelihood.
Go, who goes by the Instagram handle Googly Gooeys, recently shared to Philstar.com how she became one of the country’s most successful doodle artists – and how anyone with the same passion can achieve the same success.
Go was among the artists featured in the recent SM Stationery Art Fest, which included workshops from other artists representing brands such as Pilot Pens, Faber-Castell, Sakura, Dong-A,Ifex, Frixion Pastel, Tokyo Finds, and Elmers. For the back-to-school season, these brands offer innovations such as eco-friendly and recyclable coloring tools, gel ink paintbrush pentel pens, calligraphy art sets, and highlighters with eraser.
School supplies galore
With thousands of various schools located in the city, Quezon City has become the country’s capital in education. Now, a pioneer in books and school supplies store has evolved and opened a new school in the heart of the city.
For 75 years of supporting Filipinos education, National Book Store is taking the huge leap by creating an educational institution for higher learning at Quezon Avenue.
National Book Store College is now open for school year 2018-2019 and will be offering six in-demand degree programs such as BS Accountancy, BS Accounting Information System, BS Entrepreneurship, BS Computer Science, BS Library and Information Science and BS Tourism Management.
The college aims to “equip our students with the skills and values they need to succeed in the rapidly-changing global landscape,” NBS College president Adrian Ramos said.
A guest during the media launch, Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte said she is very grateful to have a new educational institution in the city.
“When I first heard you chosen Quezon City as a pioneer site, I was ecstatic. The average age here is 24 years old, meaning napakaraming kabataan but I always likes to stress that hindi magiging asset ang mga kabataan natin kung hindi naman sila edukado,” the vice mayor said in her speech.
“At present, we are really investing a lot in K-12 education. We look forward to working very closely with one another to ensure that the children of Quezon City are educated and can be producted citizens of the city and the country,” she continued.
The new college modern facilities and highly competent faculty help create an environment of collaborative learning. True to its value of nurturance, benevolence and service, NBS College also offers academic scholarships and a special scholarship grant for its pioneer batch.
NBS recently unveiled its Grand Back to School Fair at Trinoma Activity Center in Quezon City. Besides deals and offers, the fair also featured activities and games for students.
Recently, the bookstore chain has announced that it is partnering with Hope In A Bottle through a new collection of paper products that will help raise funds for public school classrooms.
