MANILA, Philippine - Repertory Philippines opens its 2016 season with a comedy thriller inspired by Sherlock Holmes.
Ken Ludwig's "The Game's Afoot" follows the story of Broadway star William Gillette, known for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes.
The show opens with the final scene of the play. As Gillette (Paul Holme) thanks the audience for watching the show, someone shoots him in the shoulder.
The next scene shows the magnificent stage design set in the mansion of Gillette. His mother, Martha Gillette (Joy Virata/Jay Valencia Glorioso) gets ready for Christmas eve as they are expecting visitors.
William's co-stars - Felix Geisel (Jeremy Domingo), Madge Geisel (Christine Flores), Simon Bright (Hans Eickstein) and Aggie Wheeler (Mica Pineda) - later on arrive at the Gillette residence.
Little did they know that William also invited controversial columnist Daria Chase (Pinky Amador) to join them for dinner.
William, a Sherlock Holmes-wannabe, seeks to solve the mystery behind a series of mysterious deaths lately, the most recent of a door man at the theater. He believes that it is connected to the attempt to kill him.
Inspector Goring (Natalie Everett) joins William in solving the mystery following another death in the mansion. William unleashes his inner Sherlock as they try to solve the puzzle behind the series of mysterious deaths.
The audience are warned to keep their ears open and listen carefully during the entire show as plot twists unravel themselves. The show gives a laugh and shocks the audience as the story goes on and the mystery gets solved.
"The Game's Afoot" which is directed by Miguel Faustmann will be showing from January 15 to February 7 Onstage Theater in Greenbelt 1 on Paseo de Roxas. - Patricia Lourdes Viray
