Danish Film Festival makes its debut at the Shang
MANILA, Philippines - Shangri-La Plaza recently hosted the first-ever Danish Film Festival at the Shang Cineplex as presented by the Embassy of Denmark in Manila.
Featured were award-wining and critically acclaimed films such as The Hunt, which was nominated as “Best Foreign Language Film” in the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the BAFTA awards, eventually winning the Prize of Ecumenical Jury at the Cannes Film Festival; In A Better World which bagged the award in the Best Foreign Language Film category in the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes; and other films namely A Royal Affair, Babette’s Feast, Antichrist, A Family (En Familie), In a Better World (Haeven), The Substitute (Vikare), Submarino, Zentropa (Europa), Waltzing Regitze (Dansen Med Regitze), Frygtelig Lykkelig (Terribly Happy), Worlds Apart (To Verdener), The Experiment (Eksperimentet), and What No One Knows (Det Som Ingen Ved).
“Danish film history covers it all — from silent films to talkies, from escapism to social realism, from family comedies to the so-called ‘Dogme’ films,” shared Danish Ambassador to the Philippines Jan Top Christensen. “And at the beginning of the new millennium, Danish cinema has been experiencing a new boom period of international recognition and progress.”
