Beatrix Syjuco’s ‘An Unfair Vanity’ at Galerie Astra

MANILA, Philippines - Opening Mar. 5, 6 p.m., at Galerie Astra is the solo exhibition of paintings by performance and video-installation artist Beatrix Syjuco. Titled “An Unfair Vanity,” the show will highlight Syjuco’s recent forays into concrete abstraction, which have been described as “powerful, iconic images carved from the artist’s fertile imagination.”

The event will be marked by live performances from the Electric Underground Collective (EUC), which will include performance art pioneers Jean Marie Syjuco and Ronnie Lazaro, performance-poet Cesare A.X. Syjuco, poets Alfred Yuson, Gemino Abad, Maxine Syjuco and Juaniyo Arcellana, Bobby Balingit and Planeta Ng Ngiti, Danny Sillada, Orville D.R. Tiamson and Joseph RJ Cruz, Eghai Roxas, Ian Madrigal, and a host of others.
