Edu Summit on ASEAN Integration opens today
MANILA, Philippines - Everything is set for the Edu Summit on ASEAN Integration which unfolds today and tomorrow at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC), Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
Sen. Pia S. Cayetano, chair of the Senate committee on education, arts and culture, will address the plenary meeting on opening day, while Pasig Rep. Roman T. Romulo, chair of the committee on higher and technical education of the House of Representatives, will keynote the second and last day.
Hosted by International Education Specialists (Inter-Ed), the two-day conference will tackle the impact on the country’s educational system of the ASEAN integration that will unite the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam to create the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
Other speakers on opening day include Roger D. Bartholomew, Inter-Ed president, who will welcome the participants and introduce Sen. Pia S. Cayetano following the invocation and introduction of VIP guests and delegates by Helen U. Bartholomew, Inter-Ed founder; Dr. Genevieve Ledesma-Tan, chief executive mentor, Southville International Schools & Colleges; and Christopher Nelson, chair, Domuschola International School, and member, board of advisors, Philippine National Bank.
Speakers on the second day are Sarah Younie, DeMontfort University, Leicester, United Kingdom; Peter Laurel, Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU)-Batangas and past president, Philippine Association of Colleges & Universities (PACU); and Robert Horwood Pearson, PLC, (publishing, Penguin Random House, economist, educational assessment, PTE academic qualifications).
The focus group discussion to be convened by Profiles Asia Pacific Inc. will feature Dr. Aisyah Endah Palupi, education and cultural attaché, Indonesian Embassy, as speaker.
The Edu Summit on ASEAN integration has been officially endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and Department of Labor and Employment and has the official support of the Office of the President and members of the Philippine Senate.
Registration of delegates starts today at 8 a.m., while registration for tomorrow starts at 7 a.m.
