MANILA, Philippines - Artist Jomar Delluba mounts his latest show in Galerie Raphael in Serendra. The title, “En Pointe” recalls the stance of ballet dancers as they ascend on their tiptoes. “En Pointe” runs until Feb. 18.
Laguna-based artist Jomar Delluba’s practice is one of excruciating detail within a highly-developed technique. After a year of learning drafting technology in college, he started joining and winning drawing contests in his province of Laguna. It wasn’t long before he started apprenticing under renowned surrealist Jerry Morada. His works use metaphors to articulate the idea of everyday people in his characteristically brilliant style.
Works in “En Pointe” show a new side to the artist, demonstrating his affinity with dynamism and movement and combining it with a light-hearted aesthetic. His ballet dancers are epitomes of grace, and are lovely subjects that are portrayed affectionately by the artist.
