PHOTOS: Chairs that Pope will use in the Philippines

Alixandra Caole Vila - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Last month, Filipino designer Nick de Lange was tasked to create two chairs for Pope Francis. After shedding efforts in constructing designs that would fit the Pope, industrial designer Veronica Lazo’s model was approved.

Meanwhile, as Filipinos wait for the arrival of the Pope, photos of the chairs that he will be using during his visit surfaced on the Internet.

One of these is the chair that he will be using for the Papal Mass in January 18 in Rizal Park. According to Robert M. Cruz, the VitreArtus Glass Art Co., Inc. President, the chair has "anahaw motiff and copper accents to match the altar and ambo." The chair also has a shepherd design atop in which "Ang Mabuting Pastol" was engraved. It was designed by Fr. Alex Bautista of Tarlac and was made by the artisans of VitreArtus.

The Papal chair, which would be used in MOA for the meeting with families was also posted in Robert's social media account. The chair was made of "tinalak" cloth on behalf of the people of Davao.

Another Papal chair photo was also uploaded on The Varsitarian's Facebook page. According to their page, the chair will be used during the UST visit of Pope Francis.

Notice that the chairs are looking simple rather than extravagant, which perfectly fits the "People's Pope."
