Amy Aragon, Ranelle Dial, Lyra Garcellano at Finale

MANILA, Philippines - On view until Jan. 3, 2015 at Finale Art File are solo exhibitions by visual artists Amy Aragon, Lyra Garcellano and Ranelle Dial.

In the exhibition at the Tall Gallery titled “Amy is Here,” Amy Aragon’s new paintings explore the use of floral imagery juxtaposed against imagined scenarios and documented memories: vividly colored scenes with a heightened, keen sense of atmosphere and place.

Experimenting with stylized patterns, ornament and interior scenes, Aragon playfully moves forth between gesture and color, abstraction and figuration in her works.  As a hybrid form of storage, Aragon’s paintings are filled with rich memories and mementos collected over the years, blooming with floral markers of transience, home and transit.

At the Upstairs Gallery, notions of identity and of home are tackled in Lyra Garellano’s exhibition “Sweep.” In using metaphor of “land” this assembly of landscape paintings that share/or follow a single horizon line in the quuadriptych equates to the idea of space and/or imaginings of a place. Frame by frame, each painting serves to represent a simile of the unequivocal genre.

A video of scenes of agricultural France and of Bacolod, taken by the artist, accompanies the paintings. Her monologue explores concepts of inclusion and exclusion.

On view at the Video Room is an exhibition titled “Adsciety” by Ranelle Dial. Featuring paintings and installation work with neon, the show responds to the current transitions in the use of outdoor advertising spaces, as functional, strategic, and often compellingly effective tools for the promotion of consumer products. Her exploration comes at a time when more and more traditional print ads are beginning to be replaced by digital technology.
