Ang Gerilya at BenCab Museum

Ang Gerilya group creates a series of playful renditions of Baguio’s tourism hospitality in “Dayo” (Visitor), which is about “cityfolk paradise excursion, tourist immersion, skin-deep experience, and friendly acquaintances with the tendency to misinterpret and exploit the deep-rooted highland culture of the community.”

Ang Gerilya — a Manila-based street art and graffiti collective composed of graduates of the UP Diliman College of Fine Arts — is known for its bold and colorful street art renditions whose work is inspired by the country’s culture and history.

The group also included in the exhibition shaped-artworks which they are known for: the “RoBulols” series (robots as their very own bulols, as the “gods” of childhood).

“Dayo” is on view until Oct. 12 at the BenCab Museum’s Gallery Indigo.

BenCab Museum is on Km. 6 Asin Road, Tuba, Metro Baguio, and is open daily except Mondays, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For details, call (074) 442-7165 or 0920-5301954, email bencabartfoundation@gmail.com, or visit www.bencabmuseum.org.

Joy Mallari, Bembol Dela Cruz and Tanya Villanueva at Finale Art File

On view until Sept. 29 at Finale Art File are simultaneous solo exhibitions by artists Joy Mallari, Bembol Dela Cruz and Tanya Villanueva.

Joy Mallari unveils the show, “Witness,” at the Tall Gallery. Recreating the “site of a terrestrial landing,” Mallari features an installation from 18 sculptures of flying saucers with alien figures inside, drawing the viewer through the fascination with the strange.

Bembol Dela Cruz presents “Hand Made Violence” — an installation comprised of 24 paintings titled “Calibre Series I – XXIV,” 25 drawings on paper of guns atop a table, his “Self Made Weapon Series” and metal sheets pierced with bullet holes.

At the video room is Tanya Villanueva’s exhibition of yards of painted canvases and a video installation, titled “Yard Paintings.” The artist literally paints by the yard, in the multiple sense of the word: setting up her studio in a repurposed part of a parking lot, churning out rolls of paintings that stretch on for around 18 yards. Villanueva connects the passage of time and effort with the process of painting.

For inquiries, visit Finale Art File at Warehouse 17, La Fuerza, 2241 Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City. Gallery hours are from Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Call 813-2310, 812-5034, 810-4071, email finaleartfileinc@gmail.com, or visit www.finaleartfile.com.
