Aileen Lanuza at Art Underground

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Aileen Lanuza pursues further her explorations of popular art and culture with renditions of literary archetypes as well as from the silver screen in “Who Framed Andy Warhol,” which opens on Aug. 14 at Art Underground, 814 Balagtas St. corner Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City.

Lanuza culls from pop art imagery, mass media, advertising icons and popular culture to come up with her current works.

“Who Framed Andy Warhol” comes on the heels of Lanuza’s very successful and critically acclaimed 2013 exhibit “The Interrogation of Maria Clara.”

In the exhibit, Maria Clara the heroine is combined with no other than Andy Warhol himself depicted together with Lanuza’s favorite animated characters and film stars.

Other works featured are “Cause for Alarm!,” “Andy Warhol Framed,” and “She’s Mine! No, She’s Mine!,” among others.

A fine arts graduate of the University of the Philippines, Lanuza bagged the Juror’s Choice Award in the GSIS Art Competition. Her paintings have also been included in auctions of Larasati and Borobodur in Singapore and have been featured in publications of Larasati International and the UP Alumni Centennial celebration.
