Spanish Films all over the country
MANILA, Philippines - Instituto Cervantes and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), in cooperation with the Spanish Embassy and the Film Archives of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), present “Directoras españolas†(Spanish Female directors), a series of Spanish films to be shown during the month of March at the FDCP cinematheques.
The film cycle will kick off on the 8th of March, International Women’s Day, at the recently inaugurated 160-seater Cinematheque of Zamboanga. After the opening in Zamboanga, the cycle will travel to be shown in the cinematheques of Davao (March 14 to 16), Iloilo (March 21 to 23) and Baguio (March 28 to 30).
The lineup of “Directoras españolas†is composed of award-winning films such as Te doy mis ojos (Take My Eyes), a poignant story about abuse directed by IcÃar BollaÃn in 2004; Pilar Miró’s El perro del hortelano (The Dog in the Manger), a comedy based on Lope de Vega’s play; Héctor (2004) and Siete mesas de billar francés (Seven Billiard Tables, 2007), both films directed by Gracia Querejeta.
This is not the first time that Instituto Cervantes and FDCP have teamed up to tackle a common theme. In virtue of the agreement between the two institutions, in 2013 Instituto Cervantes held in its premises a film cycle on immigration, featuring four movies on the topic from each country.
