MANILA, Philippines - Pianist Cristine Coyiuto, her flutist daughter Caitlin Alisa and guest flutist Yuko Enomoto will perform in “An Evening of Flute and Piano Music†concert on June 29, Saturday, 7 p.m., at the Chapel of the Forgiving Lord located in Tuloy Sa Don Bosco Street Children Village, Zapote Road corner San Jose Village, in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
The mother-and daughter tandem of pianist Cristine and Caitlin continue to receive critical acclaim from the press and public. They have performed in Manila, Cebu, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Alabang, Lake Placid and at the Zankel Hall in New York. Last season, critic Antonio Hila noted the “sterling world-premier performance†of Josefino Chino Toledo’s new work “Psst!†composed for Cristine and Caitlin. Cristine, who is Juilliard-trained and one of the Philippines’ most outstanding and admired pianists, has earned the titles “pianists’ pianist†and “poetess of the piano.â€
Caitlin made her orchestral debut at the age of 14, performing the Poulenc Flute Sonata, with Helen Quach conducting the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.
Rosalinda Orosa said in her column: “Flutist Caitlin, young though she is, brilliantly rendered, her tone full, firm, assured. Her vibrant performance was an eloquent augury of the brightest future. It was a ‘Concert for All Seasons.†Caitlin just finished her freshman year at Wellesley College in Massachusetts and currently studies flute with Kathy Boyd and Linda Toote. She was also the principal flutist of the Brandeis Wellesley Orchestra and has participated in the Wellesley College Chamber Concert Series.
Completing the trio is flutist Yuko Enomoto who has taught Caitlin for the past five years, and is considered as one of the most outstanding flutists in Japan today. Her concerts in Japan and France have earned her the reputation of “having a genuine sound and speed†in the French tradition of flute playing. Enomoto studied with Shigenori Kudo and Claudine Cloutour (both students of the famed Jean-Pierre Rampal) at the renowned Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris where she received the “Diplome Superieure de Concertiste de Flute,†and was also awarded the “Premier Prix in Chamber Music†from the Conservatoire Municipale de Paris. She took further studies with Emmanuel Pahud, Philippe Bernold, Maxence Larrieu, and Vincent Lucas.
Caitlin, Yuko, and Cristine will perform works by CPE Bach, Philippe Gaubert, Bohuslav Martinů, Carl Reinecke, Kazuo Fukushima, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Doppler and Ralph Hoffmann’s new work for solo flute and choir will be premiered by Caitlin, the Tuloy Children’s Choir and Novo Concertante.
