Nonie Buencamino kicks off CCP Musical Theater concert series
MANILA, Philippines - Acclaimed actor for stage, television and film Nonie Buencamino kicks off the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ musical concert series “Triple Threats: Leading Men and Women of Philippine Musical Theater†on June 13, 7:30 p.m. at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino.
The concert series features three stalwarts of the country’s musical theater scene: Buencamino, Audie Gemora and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo in solo concerts. Gemora is set to perform on July 5 while Yulo is slated for Aug. 15.
Buencamino started acting professionally in 1983 with Repertory Philippines. He is a pioneer member of the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company. He has received numerous awards for film, TV and stage including 2005 Aliw Best Stage Actor in Mario O’Hara’s Palasyo ni Valentin, 2005 Asian TV Awards Best Actor for GMA’s Magpakailanman, and Star Awards Best Supporting Actor for Milagros (1996), Midnight Dancers (1995) and Batad (2005), to name a few. Buencamino was recently seen as the King in The King and I at Resortsworld and in Tanghalang Pilipino’s Stageshow where he was described by abs-cbn.com as a “glowing musical theater presence.â€
The “Triple Threats†series, according to CCP artistic director Chris Millado, is a concept concert series. Artists will sing their favorite songs and portray their favorite characters or roles. The title “Triple Threats†refers to the fact that all three artists — Buencamino, Gemora and Yulo — can act, sing, and dance.
