MANILA, Philippines - Salingpusa artists Angel Ulama, Andy Orencio, Anthony Palomo, Cris Villanueva Jr., Cocoy Santos, Erwin Leano, Ferdie Montemayor, Jim Orencio, Manny Garibay, Mikel Parial, Neil Manalo, Rolly Acuna, Tammy Tan and Weena Espardinez celebrate three decades of friendship and artistic evolution in “Forte,” which opens on April 28 at Pinto Gallery, 1 Sierra Madre, Grand Heights, Antipolo City. The show runs until May 10.

Elmer Borlongan and Plet Bolipata at BenCab Museum

Elmer Borlongan and Plet Bolipata hold simultaneous solo shows — “Sign City” and “The Rocking Beetle Show,” respectively — which open on April 27 at Gallery Indigo, BenCab Museum, Km. 6 Asin Rd., Tuba, Metro Baguio. The shows run until June 16.

“The Rocking Beetle Show” also features Bolipata’s directorial short film debut, Manet of My Dreams.

Leon Gallery holds auction

Leon Gallery held its second record-breaking auction recently that saw artworks recently leaping from their starting bids.

From a starting bid of P1,000, “Roses” by Carlos Saavedra peaked at P115,000. Elias Laa’s “By the Beach” was snapped at P207,000. Ronald Ventura reaped P805,000 for a small work, while Lee Aguinaldo’s “Bethlehem Revisted” surged to P920,000. Fernando Zobel’s “La Piedra” reached P3,105,000 and Ang Kiukok’s “Mother and Child” went for P1,804,000. National Artist Fernando Amorsolo’s “Princess Urduja” was sold for P2,530,000, while his “Planting Rice” went for P4,025,000.

Leon Gallery now accepts consignments for June 29 mid-year auction.

Ulrike Ottinger at Yuchengco Museum

German director, photographer and artist Ulrike Ottinger illustrates how films and photographs complement and enrich each other in “Ulrike Ottinger: Photographer and Filmmaker,” which is on view until May 10 at the 3/F Bridgeway Foyer and Gallery, Yuchengco Museum, Makati City.

In line with the exhibit, the Goethe-Institut is screening Ottinger’s latest film, Under Snow (Monday to Saturday at 2 p.m.), as well as a documentary on her life and work Ulrike Ottinger: Nomad from the Lake (Monday to Saturday at 4 p.m.).

Grupo Sining Batangueño at Galeria Orlina

Works by the members of Grupo Sining Batangueño (GSB) — Lino Acasio, Jorge Banawa, Mischa Semaña, Ahyan de Roxas, Arthur Serra and Luciano Artista — are currently on view at Galeria Orlina in Taal, Batangas.

The group showcases the distinct cultural heritage of Batangas — from the famous balisong knife to the hand-embroidered barong Tagalog to ancestral houses of the Heritage Town as well as the Bird Sanctuary in Taal Lake and Volcano, to name a few.
