‘Martir sa Golgota’ at CCP
MANILA, Philippines - The Mobile Theater Foundation (formerly Tanghalang Sta. Ana) will stage a pre-Lenten production titled Martir sa Golgota, a senakulo play based on the life and passion of Jesus Christ on March 22, at 7:30 p.m., and March 23, at 3 p.m., at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater).
Directed by Lou Veloso, Martir sa Golgota features around 70 actors, mostly volunteer residents of Sta. Ana and invited TV, movie and stage personalities like Gian Magdangal, Migui Moreno, Bodjie Pascua, and Archie Adamos, among other performers.
Martir sa Golgota is presented to the public in selected venues from Holy Monday to Black Saturday. Throughout the years, it has attracted celebrities and theater actors who perform pro bono. An interesting aspect of Martir is its contemporary improvisational factor. The road to Cavalry is convoyed on the streets of the community giving the audience a close up on Christ’s passion. Through the years, Tanghalang Sta. Ana remolded this theater classic for contemporary audiences by injecting current social issues.
