Olivia d’Aboville’s ‘Stars of Hope’ at Hyatt Hotel
MANILA, Philippines - Olivia d’Aboville is this year’s artist featured at Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila’s Christmas exhibition.
Acclaimed Filipino artists who have joined the hotel’s Christmas for a cause show include Impy Pilapil, Ann Pamintuan, Tes Pasola, Renato Vidal, Michael Cacnio and Milo Naval.
Olivia transformed more than 10,000 bottles of Hope in a Bottle into illuminated works of art. Special guests in attendance for the lighting ceremony included French ambassador Gilles Garachon, Friends of Hope Inc. president Nanette Medved-Po, Make-A-Wish Foundation chairman Khalil Bagatsing and Kythe Foundation executive Director Fatima Lorenzo.
The heart of the collection is a constellation of stars adorning the main lobby of the hotel. These suspended lights are a representation of the starry night from the Nativity scene. The remainder of the Christmas star installations can be found at the hotel’s restaurants such as Market Café, Li Li and The Fireplace, as well as at The Lounge and the Regency Club Lounge.
Olivia’s Hope in a Bottle Christmas exhibit titled “Stars of Hope: A Designer’s Christmas” is on view at the hotel until Jan. 6.
Olivia’s work is globally recognized and has been featured in various art and design exhibitions in France, Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Italy, Singapore and the US. Her works range from textile jewelry to sculptures, lighting designs, and installation art.
Olivia says, “I gladly accepted the challenge as the hotel was supporting Friends of Hope Inc. and told me I would be working exclusively with Hope in a Bottle water bottles. I feel very strongly about the concept of recycling and have been doing it for years. I encourage people to think twice about their plastic consumption and I am very grateful to the hotel for giving me this amazing opportunity.”
Hope in a Bottle is part of a cause-oriented campaign that aims to increase the quality of education in the Philippines. Hope in a Bottle is a 500ml bottle of purified drinking water exclusively distributed by the Friends of Hope Inc. From every bottle of “Hope,” 100 percent of the profit goes to building public schools around the Philippines.
Olivia d’Aboville and her family, who hail from Puerto Galera, support the education of Mangyans in Mindoro. The proceeds from the sale of Olivia’s artwork will directly benefit the members of the Mangyan tribe and sponsor their pursuit of higher education.
“We are lucky to have the support of world-renowned Filipino artists every year in the hope of making a difference in the lives of others,” explains Richard M. Simmons, general manager of Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila.
