Cellist Antoni Josef Inacay in CCP concert series
MANILA, Philippines - Filipino cellist Antoni Josef Inacay is the featured artist of the third and last concert of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Special Concert Series on Sept. 26 at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater) at 7:30 p.m.
Praised for his “lush, exuberant tones” and “ravishing lyrical moments,” Inacay completed his Bachelor of Music degree in Cello at the St. Scholastica’s College under the tutelage of Wilfredo Pasamba and Renato Lucas, under a full scholarship granted by the Battig Foundation. While pursuing his degree, he became a member of the Asian Youth Orchestra during its 2001 and 2002 tours to several Asian countries. He joined the Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble Workshop in Thailand in 2005 and 2008. In 2005, he won the top prize in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists.
Upon graduating, he had already established a busy career as cellist. An active chamber musician, he has collaborated with pianists Christine Coyiuto, Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz, Mary Anne Espina, Greg Zuniega; violinist Gina Medina, and the Clarion Chamber Ensemble. He is also the principal cellist of the Manila Symphony Orchestra since 2003.
While enrolled in the studio of Rhonda Rider at The Boston Conservatory where he recently finished his Master of Music degree in Cello Performance, Mr. Inacay was a member of the Boston Conservatory Honors Quartet. He also participated in music festivals such as the Cellofest at the Texas Christian University, The Cello Seminar of Music at Salem, The Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Mr. Inacay played in masterclasses by Klaus Kanggiesser, Claudio Bohorquez, David Pereira, Andres Diaz, Christopher Adkins, Bion Tsang, Peter Howard, Steven Doane, Yehuda Hanani, Jorja Fleezanis, the Apple Hill String Quartet, and the Jupiter String Quartet.
His pianist is Mary Anne Espina, a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano graduate of the St. Scholastica’s College of Music. She holds a Master of Arts in Music degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Santo Tomas.
