Manila, Philippines - Standard Chartered Bank, the oldest international bank in the country, together with OneWorkshop Inc. recently held workshops across the Philippines for photographers planning to enter the “Capturing Timeless Visions” photography contest. Led by OneWorkshop creative director and award-winning photographer Ross Capili, the workshops provided participants in Manila, Cebu and Davao with an overview of the competition’s theme and advice on taking a winning shot.
Capili gave tips on how to take photographs that best depict the three categories of the competition: “Values” which highlights outstanding Filipino qualities, “Heritage” which highlights the Philippines’ rich traditions and “People” which demonstrates the unique character of the Filipino. Stressing the importance of subtle details, Capili shared that entries should convey a cohesive story to move its viewers.
“The photos should deliver visual impact and be able to create a connection with the ones judging it. It should be able to evoke a certain emotion even from a distance,” he said. “Photography has the power to relate the story as it is seen, and it should achieve this while preserving the integrity and the honesty of the image.”
Capili also added that the photographs must have a timeless quality that capture the essence of the Filipino spirit: “Photos need not look dated to capture our values, heritage and people. It can be a translation of what it means to be a Filipino in this day and age, and this is something that can be preserved for many years to come.”
