Thomas Daquioag and Raffy Napay at Boston Gallery

MANILA, Philippines - Thomas Daquioag and Raffy Napay hold simultaneous solo exhibitions — “Mortal” and “Bahay, Buhay,” respectively — which open on July 21 at Boston Art Gallery, 72 Boston St. corner Lantana St., Cubao, QC. Both shows run until Aug. 7.

Daquioag presents a series of painting projects based on community networks and relational practice in the age of globalization in “Mortal,” while Napay shares his good memories of home in “Bahay, Buhay.”

Rico Tompong at South African National Library

Rico Mesiona Tompong mounted “Freedom and Nature Series” recently at the South African National Library in Pretoria, South Africa as part of the Philippine Embassy’s commemoration of the 114th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence.

The show also coincided with the hand-over ceremony of book donations from the Republic of the Philippines to the National Library of Pretoria, which was presided by its CEO John Tsebe and Philippine Ambassador Constancio Vingno Jr.

‘Liberal Streaks’ at The Met Museum

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila, in partnership with the Embassy of Spain in Manila, the Department of Foreign Affairs, Fundacion Kapatiran Sandugo, and Lopez Museum, mount “Liberal Streaks,” which is on view until Aug. 11 at the Upper Level Galleries, Metropolitan Museum, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Complex, Roxas Blvd., Manila.

The show explores the concept of democratic principles and institutions through the works of Filipino contemporary artists. Nikki Luna, Louie Talents, Renan Ortiz, JuanBS, and artist group Sanggawa employed references to the Cadiz constitution, focusing on the notions of democracy and liberal ideas.

Feanne at Galerie One Workshop

Feanne reflects on her belief that science, art, and spirituality are all chords of the same universal song in “Spells & Specimen,” which opens on July 19 at Galerie One Workshop, LRI Design Plaza, Nicanor Garcia St., Bel- Air II, Makati City. The show runs until July 30.

The exhibit features 15 paintings that depict moon, crystals and animal skulls as symbols of the life-death-life cycle.
