MANILA, Philippines - Sportsman and artist Dante Silverio mounts “Homage to the Art of Amadeo Modigliani,” currently on view until July 29 at Legacy Art Gallery.
Silverio took up painting in 1990 and, through the initial encouragement of National Artist Cesar Legaspi, participated in a number of group shows. “The serenity and elegance of the composition in Sargent’s ‘Lady Agnew’ attracted me,” the artist explains about his work. “I almost maintained the exact composition but I tried to express the portrait in a different color combination. I tried to feel the passion of Sargent in capturing the elegance and beauty of the sitter. I feel triumphant in the whole exercise while trying to capture what Sargent was trying to express.”
What attracted him to Modigliani is the entire oeuvre which, according to Silverio, is “yet to be studied thoroughly” as well as the growing legend of the Italian master.
Legacy Art Gallery is at 2257 Don Chino Roces Ext. (formerly Pasong Tamo Ext.), Makati City.
