Nemo Aguila at The Crucible
MANILA, Philippines - In his second solo show, “Beauty is in the Eye of the Tiger,” which opens tomorrow at The Crucible Gallery, budding artist Nemesio Aguila, better known as Nemo, lets go of all inhibitions and shows just how the world, plain and bland to us, is filled with colors, truths, heartbreaks, triumphs and messages that are unending streams of inspiration, to be scooped up and shaped on the canvas.
In this one-man show, the artist mixes his graphics and illustrations frustrations with his visual arts background into a raucous, more honest exhibit of the world through his eyes.
“Frustrated graphic artist ako at frustated ANG INK member. First love ko ang illustrations,” he quips. Nemo’s background has shaped his skill and technique. He studied fine arts at Far Eastern University, then transferred to FEATI where he delved into realism and streamlined his style. His apprenticeship with noted Filipino contemporary artist Louie Cordero further broadened his artistic horizons.
Of his latest solo exhibit, Nemo says, “Medyo experimental ‘yung dating nitong show kasi mixed media ang gamit ko, nagpaka-natural lang ako, kung ano ‘yung resources na meron ako dito sa studio, ‘yung lang ang ginamit ko.”
“Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder” opens tomorrow, 6 p.m., and is on view until July 8 at The Crucible Gallery, fourth floor, SM Megamall A, Mandaluyong City.
