Former students hold musical tribute for Regalado S.L. Jose

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Keyboard of the University of the Philippines College of Music will hold a tribute concert on Saturday, May 5, at 6 p.m. at the Mini-hall of the College of Music on the occasion of the 85th birth anniversary of the late professor emeritus Regalado S.L. Jose.

Professor Jose, who died in 2009, taught in UP for 62 of his 82 years. He was a complete musician, being a piano soloist, accompanist, and orchestra conductor and was a multi-awarded performer during his lifetime. He conducted the Manila Symphony Orchestra and later the Metro Manila Symphony Orchestra, and was also associated with Concert at the Park from 1978 to 1983.

Performers are former students of Prof. Jose, who have also earned recognition and won awards during the course of their careers. Some of them continue to teach at UP, and their students — who can be considered Prof. Jose’s “grand-students” — are winners at the NAMCYA and Steinway piano contest. Some of these “grand-students” are also recipients of the Regalado Jose Piano grant.

The performers include Adolovni Acosta, Mauricia Borromeo, Lorenzo Medel (winner of the Steinway competition), Imelda Ongsiako, Gemma Malicdem, Nita Abrogar-Quinto, Pia Diño-Balasico, Karen Francisco, Kim Huan Hee, Joel Viola, Gabriel Allan Paguirigan (recipient of the Regalado Jose Piano Grant), Miguel Aspiras (first recipient of the Regalado Jose Piano Grant and a cum laude graduate in the recent commencement exercises), Betina Bernabe, Danica Antazo and Gabrielle Rodriguez.

The public is invited to the concert and admission is free.
