Spain's Ballet David Campos takes on 'Sleeping Beauty' and 'Giselle'
MANILA, Philippines - The Ballet David Campos of Barcelona, the Spanish Embassy of the Philippines, Instituto Cervantes and the Institut Ramon Llull, present two of the company’s major productions from March 22 to 25 at the CCP’s Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo.
A new ballet version of a timeless fairytale, Sleeping Beauty, and one of ballet’s great tragedies, Giselle, will both be produced by one of today’s most sought-after and innovative choreographers in the world, David Campos.
The Barcelona-based dance company combines contemporary and innovative dance styles with the strength and disciplined beauty of classical ballet techniques. With Campos and Filipino dancer Irene Sabas as artistic directors and founders, the 27-member company features a strong Filipino-Spanish artistic blend. Four Filipino ballet dancers based in Spain (Elline Damian, Aileen Gallinera, Eduardo Espejo, Karina Campos) interpret the principal roles of two renowned classics.
This one of a kind artistic event will be an opportunity to present the unique collaboration between the Philippines and Spain, two countries who share a close historical past, with ballet dancers from these two countries.
Sleeping Beauty will run from March 22 to 23 at 8 p.m. while Giselle will run from March 24 to 8 p.m. and on March 25 at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (tel. 832-3704) and at www.ticketworld.com.ph (tel. 891-9999).
