Nemiranda's Moscow experience

MANILA, Philippines - Ortigas Foundation Inc. features Angono’s artist Nemiranda’s old gold and new works at the second floor of the Ortigas Bldg., Ortigas cor. Meralco Ave., Ortigas Center, Pasig City. The show titled “Nemiranda: The Moscow Experience” is on view until July 30.

The exhibit was borne from the cultural exchange between the Russian Federation and the Philippine republic. In celebration of 35 years of Russo-RP relations and the 150th birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, the two countries have agreed to foster diplomatic ties further. Nemiranda was the Filipino artist selected to represent the country and stage an exhibition in Moscow.

During his June stay in that very historic part of Europe, Nemiranda painted scenes with subjects ranging from landscapes to character studies to street scenes. Nemiranda also drew portraits of members from Russia’s diplomatic corps and their families. Numbering more than two dozens, these works now hang on the walls of Russian homes. “Lullaby,” a watercolor work of his, now hangs at the prestigious Glinka State Museum of Musical Culture. It was at this museum where a special dinner was co-hosted by Ambassador Victor Garcia III and his wife Connie Garcia. The affair was attended by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin, Ministry of Culture Counselor Leo Dzugaev and other dignitaries.

“Nemiranda: The Moscow Experience” is a project of the Ortigas Foundation Inc. in partnership with Nemiranda Arthouse. Main sponsors are the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Russian Embassy in the Philippines.
