Manila, Philippines - The country’s up-and-coming classical artists take center stage on May 28 at 6 pm in the Soloists Night, the culminating concert of the 17th Pundaquit Festival at Casa San Miguel in San Antonio, Zambales.
The country’s longest-running community-based arts program, the annual festival was founded by international violinist Alfonso “Coke” Bolipata to develop musical and artistic talents in the grassroots.
Featured soloists are Yvonne Madarang performing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4, Julian Duque in Sarasate’s Gypsy Airs, Miguel Estrada interpreting Mendelssohn’s violin concerto, Joven Aquisap in Telemann’s viola concerto, and Nehm Lipana in Boccherini’s cello concerto.
They will be accompanied by the Pundaquit Virtuosi and pianist Jourdann Petalver.
The concert is preceded at 4 p.m. by exhibits at the Siemens Gallery featuring the best works among workshop participants of Casa San Miguel’s visual arts and creative writing program. Citations to sponsors and conferment of The Young Artist of the Year Award will be given during the concert.
Casa San Miguel’s resident artists are photographer Paolo Piccones, painters Brendale Tadeo and Carlo Gabuco for visual arts, violinist Olga Elloso and cellist Robert Tismo for music, and the Pinoy Poets, and Yaki Lerer for creative writing.
Residents mentor 120 local talents yearlong in music, visual arts, film, and creative writing in preparation for performances, exhibits, and academic pursuits.
Concert will be held at the newly renovated Ramon L. Corpus Hall of Casa San Miguel. Tickets are P1,000 each, covering entrance to galleries, pre-show cocktails and post-concert dinner with the artists.
Participants in the music summer camp will hold its third and final recital on May 29 at 5 p.m.
