MANILA, Philippines - Instituto Cervantes de Manila, in celebration of the 2011 Philippine International Guitar Festival and Competition, presents a classical guitar concert featuring renowned Spanish guitarist Àlex Garrobé on Jan. 27, 7 p.m. at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Little Theater.
The Catalan soloist, one of the leading musicians in this year’s guitar festival, will feature the finest works in the Spanish repertoire through a selection of compositions by guitarists such as E. Sainz de la Maza, J. Guinjoan, C.Pedrell, F. Moreno Torroba, and J.Turina.
Garrobé will also be conducting a classical guitar workshop for advanced students on Jan. 28 at CCP. (For further information and registration, visit www.philippineguitarfestival.com)
No stranger to classical guitar fans around the world, Garrobé is one of the best-known classical guitarists in Spain today. Born into a prominent musical family in Barcelona, Spain, Garrobé graduated with First Class Honors from Alicante Conservatory in 1988. In 1990, he was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Scholarship to broaden his studies at the Musikhochschule in Cologne with Hubert Käppel.
“Àlex Garrobé in Concert” is organized by Instituto Cervantes de Manila in collaboration with The Guitar Friends, CCP, Spanish Embassy in the Philippines, Spanish Agency International Cooperation for Development (AECID), the Ministry of Culture of Spain, and the New World Hotel.
