MANILA, Philippines - In February of 2011, Ateneo BlueRepertory brings the first and greatest rock musical of all time to Manila Hair.
Groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning and shocking, the story of Hair is set in the ’60s— back when culture and societies were authoritarian, and war was a household name. Hair tells the story of friends (or “hippies” and “flower children” as they are later called) who lead carefree, bohemian lives in New York.
Their struggle to break free from conservatism and violence leads them to protest by using the most organic and dramatic visible element they could find — Hair. Soon enough, they refuse to give up their hair as part of their cause to fight for liberty, love and life.
Open auditions for Hair will be held on Nov. 22 and 23 (music auditions) from 4:30 to 10 p.m. and Nov. 24, 26 and 28 (dance auditions, callbacks and workshops) at the Ateneo de Manila University.
Auditionees must prepare a song segment from Hair and any song from a different musical (eight bars). Dance attire is required for the dance auditions.
Ateneo BlueRepertory’s Hair will be theater actor Jake Macapagal’s directorial debut after performing in the Germany and UK run of Miss Saigon, Repertory Philippines’ The Fantasticks and in Stages’ West Side Story. Hair will be musically directed by Laura Cabochan (Tanghalang Ateneo’s Walang Sugat), choreographed by Adrydeo Dela Cruz (Dulaang UP’s Orosman at Zafira) and stage designed by Monica Sebial (Ateneo Blue Repertory’s Freakshow).
The production will run from Feb. 9 to 12 and 16 to 19 at the Rizal Mini Theater, Ateneo de Manila University.
