‘Walong Filipina’ at the CCP

MANILA, Philippines - Eight Filipina environmentalists, eight artists, and eight researchers will join hands for Mother Earth for another leg of “Walong Filipina 2010: Sa Ngalan ng Kalikasan,” which is slated from Oct. 14 to Nov. 21 at the Small Gallery of the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Roxas Blvd., Pasay City.

“Walong Filipina 2010” honors the works of eight environmentalists. They are Evelyn Cacha, co-founder of Alyansa Laban sa Mina (Alamin) in Mindoro; UP Tacloban dean Margarita dela Cruz; Sis. Luz Emmanuel of Assumption Antipolo; environmental lawyer Ipat Luna; Judea Millora, a waste management expert; Jurgenne Primavera, renowned advocate of sustainable fish farming; Lydia Robledo, butterfly habitat conservation advocate; and Luz Sabas, 80 years old, who together with her late husband pioneered waste management in the Philippines. 

The advocacies of these eight women were portrayed by Egai Talusan Fernandez, Efren Garcellano, Renato Habulan, Rico Palacio, Mario de Rivera, Mark Salvatus, Jojit Solano, and PG Zoluaga, who worked on the subjects based on research supplied by UP Arts Studies class under professor Flaudette May Datuin. The researchers are Ceres Canilao, Hemerson Dimacale, Aleth Gayosa, Romena Luciano, Vima Odiver, Mai Saporsantos, and Debbie Virata.

De Leon, Melencio and Escueta at Mo_Space

‘Enemy’ at Paseo Gallery

Broke, Anading and Cordero at Manila Contemporary

Poklong Anading and Louie Cordero team up with Broke, the unique design strand of well-known fabrication company Bespoke based in Manila, to produce an experimental mix of functional and conceptual fine arts project in “Broke+Poklong Anading+Louie Cordero,” which opens on Oct. 16, 6 p.m. at Manila Contemporary, Whitespace, 2314 Pasong Tamo Ext., Brgy. ‘Lucia’ at The Crucible

‘Dasmanila’ at Ayala Museum Plaza

Ayala Museum will present “Dasmanila: Recycling Garbage, Restoring Heritage,” which opens on Oct. 15 at the Ayala Museum Plaza, Makati Ave. corner Dela Rosa St., Greenbelt Park, Makati City. The show runs until Nov. 21.

The art installation comprises of 400 flowers made from recycled garbage, handwoven by a group of women in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

For some time now, the women of Dasmariñas have collaborated to produce and sell uniquely crafted products made from recycled garbage.

The show is funded by the profit generated from Omnium Design Studios and Omnium Software, who have initiated socially responsive efforts in Uganda, Kenya, and the Philippines.

The art project is presented in collaboration with the Center for Social Action of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, and the Dasma Women in Recycling, Ayala Foundation, and Ayala Museum.
