'Likhaang Bayan' at UST
MANILA, Philippines - The “Likhang Bayan” exhibition is a yearly activity of the faculty members and students of the University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD), in collaboration with the UST Museum. It highlights the effort to integrate the learning of traditional Filipino arts in art and design education. Now on its fourth year, it focuses on the community-based traditional artist and the school-based artist-teacher. Both play a significant role in initiating and sustaining the learning of traditional Filipino arts by arts and design students.
Likhang Bayan 4 will open on Sept. 22, at the UST Museum and will run until Oct. 9. It will feature the works of traditional craftsmen and women of Laguna and Bulacan, such as the exquisite kayas-kayas (wood shaving) of Desiderio Maravilla of Pakil. It will also feature a variety of works by both the CFAD faculty members and students.
Traditional artists and artist-teachers will be conducting workshops for selected students from Sept. 27 to 29, at the Beato Angelico Gallery at the ground floor of the Beato Angelico Building, España Boulevard corner P. Noval Street, Manila.
