MANILA, Philippines - The Ateneo Alumni Association headed by its president Ramon Roco, in cooperation with Ateneo Art Auction project chairman Dr. Leovino Ma. Garcia and co-chairman Dr. Jaime Laya aims to bring together Ateneo alumni and friends, artists, and art lovers for a noble cause: to provide Ateneo education for academically gifted but financially-disadvantaged students who will become future leaders in their respective fields.
The 3rd Ateneo Art Auction titled “For Ateneo Scholars Tomorrow’s Nation Builders” will be held on Oct. 2, Saturday, at 4 p.m. at the Finale Art File, La Fuerza Compound, 2241 Pasong Tamo Extension, Makati. Preview dates are on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Last year’s auction successfully helped raise new college scholarships to celebrate the Ateneo de Manila University’s Sesquicentennial or 150th anniversary. A portion of the proceeds was also allotted to Ateneo faculty and staff members who were affected by the onslaught of typhoon Ondoy. For the third one, a greater number of renowned and emerging artists have contributed their choice pieces to raise more scholarships for the Ateneo’s School of Humanities.
This year’s auction promises to be an even bigger event than last year’s, featuring nearly 100 select artworks by the country’s National Artists and most-sought-after young artists.
The featured artists are Ang Kiukok, Arturo Luz, Jose Joya, Ronald Ventura, Geraldine Javier, Rodel Tapaya, Ramon Orlina, Julie Lluch, Joe Datuin, Ferdinand Cacnio, Daniel de la Cruz, Norma Belleza, Betsy Westendorp, Araceli Dans, Imelda Cajipe Endaya, Gilda Cordero Fernando, Lao Lianben, Gus Albor, Nestor Vinluan, Alfredo Liongoren and Virgilio Aviado whose works are priced significantly lower to encourage higher bids.
Wines will be served courtesy of Rene Barbier Wines and with cocktails prepared by Chateau 1771.
