German contemporary artists at The Metro Gallery
MANILA, Philippines - André Butzer, Michael Conrads, Lisa Herfeldt, Andreas Hofer, Volker Hueller, Dennis Loesch, Anna McCarthy, Jonathan Meese, Julia Pfaller, Hank Schmidt in der Beek, Rouven Schmitt, Malte Urbschat, Thomas Winkler, Ulrich Wulff and Sebastian Zarius present a broad spectrum of contemporary art — from drawings, collages, paintings and etchings to prints and sculptures — in “Ang Dalawang Agila,” which is on view until March 12 at The Metro Gallery, 455 P. Guevarra St., San Juan, Metro Manila.
The show is the third exhibition of German contemporary art in Manila.
Timo Roter Hansen curates the exhibit. Hansen, the initiator of the project, is studying Filipino language and culture studies, ethnology and art history and has been active as an artist and curator in the Philippines since 2004.

National Artist Carlos Quirino celebrates birth centennial
The birth centennial of Carlos Quirino (1900-1999), 1997 National Artist of the Philippines for Historical Literature, will be observed this year with a series of events that highlights his prowess as a writer, scholar, sportsman, bibliophile and his invaluable contributions to the study of Philippine history, starting with “Pen, Paper and Bookmaking: The Life of Carlos Quirino,” which is on view until April 10 at the Yuchengco Museum in Makati City.
The exhibit showcases Quirino’s craft with a display of over 70 items from the Quirino family archives and private collections, including manuscripts, diaries, personal letters, memorabilia and rare books from his vast personal library.
The show also features a specially commissioned film by Vibal Foundation with interviews with artists and scholars such as National Artist F. Sionil Jose, Alejandro Roces, Manuel Quezon III, Corazon Alvina, Gilda Cordero Fernando and Reni Roxas. Weekly informal lectures by Quirino’s contemporaries and friends on his work will supplement the exhibition.
Alongside the exhibit, Vibal Foundation (VFI) launches a coffee-table reprint of Quirino’s book, Philippine Cartography, a landmark history of Philippine maps and their cartographers.

‘Minimum Yields Maximum’ in LA
