MANILA, Philippines - Classical guitarists Ivar-Nicholas Fojas and Nobel Queaño will perform musical masterpieces in “Guitar Duets,” a concert series on Dec. 10 and 11 at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
The five-show series, produced by the UPLB Department of Humanities, will feature Fojas and Queaño playing guitar renditions of selected timeless musical pieces, such as Vivaldi’s Spring, Mozart’s Turkish March, Debussy’s Golliwog’s Cakewalk and compositions by Filipino national artists Lucresia Kasilag, Lucio San Pedro and Ernani Cuenco.
A graduate of the University of the Philippines-Diliman, Fojas has performed both locally and internationally in Europe, Scandinavia and Russia. While in school, he was mentored and trained by maestro Jose Valdez, also known as the Father of Philippine Guitar, and Lester Demetillo, one of the country’s leading classical guitarists. Fojas formed and directed the Kithara Guitar Quartet in 2003, a group that is still touring and performing in the Philippines today.
Fojas is now based in UP Los Baños where he teaches for the Department of Humanities, while Queaño teaches and performs in Hong Kong, his current place of residence.
