MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Art Awards (PAA) has started accepting entries for the Mindanao, Visayas, Luzon and Metro Manila Art Awards.
The PAA has expanded the competition by accepting multi-dimensional works for the 2009-2010 season. PAA believes that the inclusion of works other than that of wall-bound pieces will give the visual artists more room to express their art.
PAA has included in its regional launches a series of art clinics conducted by noted art professor and museum curator Patrick Flores, who gave the artists an overview of the current trends of contemporary art in the Philippines, as well as the Asian region.
The 40 winners in this year’s regional competition will each receive a cash prize of P40,000 and will have the chance to compete in the national selection in 2010 where the grand-prize winner is set to receive P350,000.
The national finals has allotted P120,000 for each of the five Juror’s Choice prize, and P80,000 for each of the two Award of Merit prizes. All the winners will also travel to Shanghai, Peoples’ Republic of China as part of their prize. The artists’ trip shall coincide with the Shanghai Art Fair scheduled for summer next year.
PAA, collectively brought by the National Museum, Asian Tigers Lane Moving & Storage, and Philip Morris Philippines Manufacturing Inc., has already started collecting entries from Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo. It will collect entries from Legaspi (Oct. 14), Naga (Oct. 16), Angono (Oct. 21), Baguio (Oct. 22), Manila and the rest of Luzon (Oct. 23), Bulacan and Pampanga (Oct. 24).
