Pianist Angelo Rondello to perform with UST Symphony Orchestra

-

Visiting American pianist Angelo Rondello will perform Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto with conductor Aries Caces and the University of Santo Tomas Symphony Orchestra at the Philamlife Auditorium in Manila on Aug. 9 at 7 pm.

Rondello will also be performing works for the solo piano, including two Chopin Mazurkas, the Sonatine by Ravel, and Samuel Barber's Sonata for Piano.

Rondello began studying the piano at age 13 and was giving concerts within a year.  Since giving his New York debut in the Trinity/St. Paul Concert series in 2005, he has appeared on television, featuring his performance of the Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto no. 2 in g minor.  His performances have been featured on live radio, and his playing of Bach was featured in the award-winning film, “Die Martins Passion.”

With this inborn passion for music and speech, Rondello has developed unique takes on the piano recital.  His presentations have included The American Piano: a Musical Journey From 1920 to Present; Romance at the Keyboard; Fantasies, Fairy Tales, and Fair Maidens (a children’s program), wherein he presented various aspects of the piano literature, both as pianist and commentator.  This spring he hosted and performed in an all-Mendelssohn program in New York in celebration of Mendelssohn’s 200th birthday.

Aside from his performing career, Rondello is also a teacher and dedicated advocate of music education.  In addition to his teaching studio, he has taught music theory and history in various music schools in New York.  As a writer, his thoughts on music education, philosophy of music, and other topics, have published in various magazines, books, and newspapers.

Prior to moving to New York in 2000, Rondello lived in his native Pacific Northwest where he founded Melodia, an organization devoted to bringing educational music programs to schools and communities, and creating opportunities for young musicians.

Rondello’s principal teachers have been Mark Salman and Jeffrey Biegel.
