Gantimpala Theater stages 'Luneta MMIX'

MANILA, Philippines - The 2009 Gantimpala Theater workshoppers stage their culminating recital billed “Luneta MMIX” on May 21, 6 p.m. at the Concert at the Park Open Air Auditorium.

Roeder Camañag directs. Musical director is Onyl Torres, Tony Espejo is artistic director, and with script by J. Dennis Teodosio.

“Luneta MMIX” is about the lives of the colorful people who regularly visit the historic park. The summer workshoppers will perform Filipino pop tunes and dances.

Also, the Gantimpala Theater Actors’ Company will present a special theater movement performance with choreography and direction by Roobak Valle.

From May 25 to June 1, Ed Murillo conducts a 10-day stage and production management workshop at the rehearsal hall of the Open Air Auditorium Building.

Murillo is considered as one of Manila’s most prominent stage managers. He will teach the rudiments of theater stage and production management.

This workshop is open to theater practitioners who have an interest in stage and production management. A presentation of 10-minute plays, which the workshoppers will run, serves as culminating activity. Workshop fee is P3,000.

On May 25 and 26, Gantimpala Theater conducts its 32nd season auditions at the Rehearsal Hall of the Open Air Auditorium Building, from 2pm.-7pm. Those who will audition must bring a resumé, two pictures (close-up and whole body) and they must prepare themselves to read a portion of a script from one of the Four Classics.

The first day (May 25), Monday, is exclusively for the Actors’ Company and celebrity guests. The second day (May 26), Tuesday, is the general auditions.

Directors Soxie Topacio (Florante at Laura), Adriana Agcaoili (Noli Me Tangere), Roobak Valle (Ibong Adarna and El Filibusterismo), Jose Jeffrey Camañag (Our Town) and Tony Espejo (Cinderella) will conduct the auditions.
